Everyone is using AI to help their resume pass through the ATS and be selected by the human screener for an interview. How do you get chosen if all resumes look alike and read alike?
With AI available, all résumés should be able to meet the requirements of the job description they’re being matched up against. So how will a firm, how will a recruiter decide to speak with someone? I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search coaching and career advice globally because I make the process of finding work and succeeding at it much easier.
Now, I’ll simply say whichever framework you use, whether it’s STAR or SOAR or CAR, whichever one it is, it will come down to the situation that you were in or the challenge that you faced—the first letter of the framework that’s going to make a difference. So STAR is situation or task, action, result. SOAR is situation, obstacle, action, result. CAR is challenge, action, result.
It’s always going to be in the first letter where you can really contextualize the issue and make it clear what the problem was, so that a firm, a reader, can empathize with what you say and thus pay attention to the action that you took. And you know, as is the case with every bedtime story, the result is always, “and everyone lived happily ever after”. Well, that’s the result. Everyone lives happily ever after. After all, what you did was eliminate costs, improve productivity by certain percentages, etcetera, etcetera.
So what’s going to make you stand out from others is going to be how you describe the situation you were in to hook them, to connect with them, so that they want to read more. That’s what’s going to take defining what it was that you had to contend with and the problem that you faced before you even get to the actual result.
I have a lot more available to help you at JobSearch.Community. Come over to the site, download the free stuff. Maybe order a resume critique from me. There’s free stuff there, very low-cost stuff. And if you become an insider at any of the levels, you get access to all my video courses, books, and guides. And at five out of the six levels, you get coaching from me as well. At all of them, I’ll answer your questions.
