Do you want to know how major companies, the hot firms in the valley, other major players in tech and other industries find senior talent? It’s not through you applying to job boards. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search coaching and career advice globally because I make the process of finding work and succeeding at it much easier.
I read a post from someone who has been a corporate recruiter for some major players. I don’t want to identify firms, and what she said was really very simple: We don’t respond and we don’t use LinkedIn to find the talent at our firms. What we do is we headhunt, we network, we ask for referrals.
What does that mean for you? You’ve got to get your name out there much more than it already has been for most of you. You’ve got a fine clique of people who know about you. You have to make that broader so that those recruiters can find you, so that they can know something about you walking in the door. A great LinkedIn profile, because I’m sure they’re using LinkedIn to find talent, is a big part of this. But the fact remains, if you’re applying to jobs as a senior leader, you’re really wasting your time.
