By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
Comet is a browser developed by Perplexity with AI built into it through an AI assistant function built into it. I asked whether it could find jobs currently available online and whether it could apply to them for someone. This is obviously an AI answer because it comes directly from Comet/Perplexity:
Comet does not directly offer a built-in job search engine or automated resume submission service for external job boards. Here’s what Comet can do, and what it cannot do—plus options that might support your workflow:
What Comet Can Do:
Search the Web for Job Listings: I can search job boards and company career pages for current openings based on your criteria.
Analyze and Tailor Resumes: Comet can analyze the job description and suggest tailored resume edits, rewriting bullet points and optimizing content for specific roles.
Guide Application Steps: I can walk you through submitting an application (e.g., filling forms, uploading resumes), and perform these actions via browser automation, but only if you manually review the final submission.
Track and Manage Job Search Process: You can organize job search resources and track applications within Comet (using tab management, notes, calendar reminders, and email workflows).
What Comet Cannot Do:
Directly Apply on Your Behalf: Comet can automate browser actions to fill out forms and upload files, but submitting applications without any human intervention is not supported, as it may require personal review, confirmation, and sometimes solving CAPTCHAs or other authentication challenges.
AI-Driven Resume Submission: There is no 1-click “find jobs, tailor, and auto-submit” workflow built into Comet for external sites. For full automation, specialized job-application services (like EasyApply.AI, ApplyAI) may better fit that need.
Workflow Example Using Comet:
Search for Jobs:
I search for “remote recruiter jobs” on major boards (Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor).
I display summary results and links for you.
Customize Resume:
You share your base resume.
I analyze a chosen job listing and rewrite sections to match keywords and requirements.
Facilitate Application:
I automate the browser to fill in forms with tailored resume and details (if you request), but you confirm and submit.
Comparison: Comet vs. Automated Job Application Services
| Feature | Comet | EasyApply.AI, ApplyAI |
|---|---|---|
| Job Search | Yes (via web search) | Yes (aggregated boards) |
| Resume Tailoring | Yes (AI rewrite) | Yes (AI rewrite + optimization) |
| Fully Automated Submission | No | Yes |
| Human Review Before Submission | Yes | Optional |
| Integration with Personal Accounts | Yes (email/calendar) | Varies |
| Compliance & Data Privacy | Manual review | Varies by platform |
Comet excels at finding jobs, tailoring resumes, and guiding manual applications—but does not fully automate job submissions. For “1-click apply, tailor, and submit” automation at scale, third-party platforms are needed, and may require sharing additional data and credentials.
How To Use AI to Find Job Titles You’re Qualified For
I then asked if I was a program manager (I did not limit the question by geography), what sites it would search to find available jobs.
For program manager positions, the best websites to search are those that aggregate major job listings, offer specialized filters for remote/hybrid opportunities, and include roles across industries. Here are the top sites to search—these are widely used by recruiters, hiring managers, and job seekers for program manager roles in the USA and beyond:
1. LinkedIn Jobs
Massive database of program manager roles (tech, healthcare, non-profit, finance, etc.)
Advanced filters for location, remote, industry, and salary
2. Indeed
Aggregates listings from company career pages and posting boards
“Program Manager” search with filters for remote, salary, employer type
3. Glassdoor
Shows company reviews alongside job postings, ideal for researching culture and fit
Strong tech, big company listings
4. ZipRecruiter
Good for mid-sized companies and emerging industries
Email alerts for new program manager openings
5. SimplyHired
Aggregates jobs from niche boards, staffing firms, and employers
6. Dice
Tech-focused board, ideal if searching for IT program manager or agile roles
7. Crossover
Specializes in remote, global program manager roles with competitive compensation
8. BuiltIn
Startup and tech-focused; program manager jobs at SaaS, AI, product-led companies
9. AngelList/Wellfound
For startup, fintech, and VC-backed program manager roles, especially product or operations focused
10. FlexJobs
Only vetted, real remote/hybrid jobs—including program and project management positions
Extra:
For nonprofit/NGO program manager jobs, also check Idealist, HigherEdJobs, and Devex.
It concluded by asking, “Would you like step-by-step help searching or filtering for current openings on any of these sites? Or do you want targeted recommendations for a specific sector?”
Interesting, huh?
