What Recruiters Look For and Don’t Look For When They Scan Resumes
Hiring isn’t about finding the best person. It’s about reducing the risk of hiring the wrong person.
After all, if a company is going to make a choice, if a hiring manager is going to choose someone and take a chance on an unconventional hire, if the person works out, it’s assumed. However, if the person fails and it’s evaluated why this person was chosen as a risky individual, that hiring manager faces a consequence.
Same thing with a recruiter who refers someone who fails versus passing on them because they’re not a conventional choice. Recruiters get measured based upon the outcomes of the people that they refer. And the long and the short of it is for both a hiring manager and a corporate recruiter and an agency recruiter as well: If someone fails, it’s on them.
