Dang! You want to get noticed by the right people on LinkedIn so opportunities come to you. Here’s how.
Tough Interview Questions: Solve This Problem
Here are a few more ways to get more attention on LinkedIn and the attention of the right people who may want to hire you. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no B.S. job search coaching and career advice globally because I make the process of finding work and succeeding at it much easier.
First thing to do is, instead of always applying to jobs, spend more of your time identifying firms you’d like to work for. This also includes identifying the specific VPs and the specific senior leaders who might be your boss’s boss, and starting to target them.
In terms of identifying firms you’d like to work for, the logic is really very simple: applying for jobs doesn’t fill that many positions, and being referred by recruiters doesn’t fill that many positions. Networking does. Networking fills as few as 70% of all jobs and as much as 85%, depending upon whose statistics you look at.
From there, excuse me, start following those firms. And then from there, go to the company page on LinkedIn, on the “About” tab drop down, and say, “I’m interested“. It’s a signal to a firm that you’d be interested in working for them.
Comment on their posts. Comment on anyone’s post that you’ve identified, or senior leaders at that organization. Why? They start to notice you. And in starting to noticing you, they start to explore things about you.
And when I’m talking about comments, I’m not talking about, “Hey great post”. I’m talking about thoughtful, interesting, supportive posts for them. Even if you disagree, you can say something about like, “I’m curious when I think about this problem, fill in the blank”. And thus, what you’re starting to do is engage in conversations—substantive information, substantive conversations. And then from there, they’ll start to recognize your name and be curious about you.
